Barbus nigrofasciatus Popular name Black Ruby, or Purple-headed Barb. Origin Ceylon. Size 2.5 inches.Appearance The female is a yellowish-gray fish with three to four dark vertical bands or blotches. The male is brownish black to black and the anterior part of the fish is vermilion-red.Behavior An attractive and popular community fish. Feeding Accepts all foods. Water conditions Not critical, but shows off best in near neutral Water of moderate hardness.Sexing As described above. Breeding Another easily bred Barb; it lays 200 to 800 eggs. Method .
