Various toxic hazzards are known to aquarists.Paint fumes from certain types of paint are dangerous.When redecorating a room the tank should be well covered and the aerator switched off.Black rubber tubing can give off toxic substances.Most natural rubber products do not appear to be deleterious.Some plastics,such as celluloid are toxic.Perspex should be safe as it is used in many aquatic products.
